Two Truths and a Lie: Fun Ice breaker for the First Date

How to Play the Game

This game is also called Two Truths, One Lie or Two Truths and One Not. It extremely easy to play and doesn't need any equipment or supplies, only your imagination.

You can play this game at the first date as icebreaker or as a group entertainment with any number of people involved.

Here's how it works:

ü  Each person in the group gets a turn.
ü  When it is your turn, tell the group two things about yourself that are true and one thing that is untrue (this is your lie).
ü  Try not to tell both of your truths first and then the lie because that makes it easier to guess.
ü  Mix the order up each time it is your turn. Alternate between truth-truth-lie, truth-lie-truth and lie-truth-truth.
ü  Everyone in the group has an opportunity to try to guess which statement was the lie.
ü  Once everyone has guessed, the person will reveal what was true and what was false.
ü  If only one person was correct, that person can go next. Or, the person sitting closest to the last person can go next.
ü  This can go around as many times as you would like or just so everyone gets the chance to go once.

Some Strategies and Suggestions

This game isn't any fun if you make it completely obvious which statement is a lie and which statements are true. Here are some ways to avoid doing that.

Strategy #1

Make two boring or average statements. One of them should be the lie. Your true statement should be something radical or surprising. If you do this, chances are that your friends will suspect the outrageous fact is the lie.

Strategy #2

Make two surprising or uncommon statements — one of them should be true and the other should be a lie. Your second truth can be a common statement. This will prompt your friends to pick one of the surprising statements as the lie, but which one? It could possibly stump them.

Strategy #3

Make your two true statements unbelievable, if you can. This lets you make the lie very believable. Your friends will assume that the two wild statements can't both be true and pick one of them as a lie.
